Look Me In The Eyes and Tell Me That You Love Me

A series of self portraits with various subjects and levels of familiarity, “Look Me In The Eyes and Tell Me That You Love Me” explores themes of vulnerability, intimacy and the aesthetics of self portraits in a controlled environment. This work explores the collaborative process and the connected vulnerability between myself and each subject, the study of interaction and the role of the camera.

My method was very much one of collaboration, comfort and creativity. I tried not to prompt my subjects to act or behave a certain way in front of the camera, except in cases where I invited them to release the shutter themselves and orchestrate the image on their own. The camera both facilitated and documented the context in which these collaborations took place. I chose to incorporate varied relationships in order to encourage the viewer to create their own conclusions about the interactions and to add mystery to the project. I am continuously interested in pushing the limits of how this can reveal the reality of the experience and how the camera does not always tell the truth.
